TOPIC: Text based install from network source

This guide details the steps involved in installing from a local HTTP server.


Installation

  1. You may choose to test your installation media if you suspect it has been damaged or was not written correctly.
  2. Select your langauge, press OK.
  3. Select compatible keyboard type, press OK.
  4. Select HTTP, press OK.
  5. Configure detected network adapter, press OK.
  6. Enter the ipaddress or URL of the server with YDL CD contents as "Web site name: " and the top level directory of the CD contents as "YDL directory: ", press OK.
  7. Press OK to pass Welcome screen.
  8. For a new basic install on a system where YDL will be the only operating system, select "remove all partitions on selected drives and create default layout".
    1. If this install is on a system with a Linux operating system you wish to replace, select "Remove Linux partitions on selected drives and create default layout".
    2. If this install is on a system with an operating system you wish to preserve, select "use free space on selected drives and create default layout".
    3. Following instructions available online, you may create a custom partition layout. {Advanced users ONLY}
  9. Select the drives (if you have multiple) on which to perform the above actions, and press OK.
  10. Confirm your changes are correct in the warning dialog.
  11. You may choose to review and modify the partition layout. {Advanced users ONLY}.
  12. Default settings are OK for most networks, press OK.
  13. Select your timezone, press OK.
  14. Enter a password for the "root" superuser, and proceed next.
    • This is the highest level user and has all privileges. Password must be at least 6 chars long.
  15. (PACKAGE SELECTION)
  16. Press OK for installation to begin.
  17. Grab a coffee this could take a while.
  18. Press reboot when done installation.
  19. Make any changes necessary to the modules listed in the firstboot screen.
  20. Press Exit when done.
