Introduction
This will give instructions on how to set graphics on the G4 Quicksilver 2002 newest video card, Radeon 9500 (according to the sales rep, by my card may be a 7500).
- Install YDL using:
install-text-safe hdc=ide-scsi [ENTER]
- Follow usual instructions, but in X configuation section do the following:
a) Accept the card choosen ... during install it will be:
OFfb/pc:@f000000/ATY,BlueStoneParent@1^]
... or during Xconfigurator after system has booted it will be Radeon 7500)
b) Choose Custom monitor and select 1024x768@60
c) Choose 8 or 16 bits of color
d) Choose 1024x768
e) Choose yes to accelerator
d) It is suggested that you choose text for login so problems may be fixed with Xconfigurator if necessary. - Finish the install as directed.
- At the boot prompt, after 'l' for linux has been entered, type:
linux video=radeon:1024x768-8@60 hdc=ide-scsi [ENTER] (see How to determine drive IDs for more information.)
(NOTE: Obviously, if you are using a different size monitor, the Xconfiguration file above will have different custom monitor settings as well. I don't know yet if typing the above will always be necessary, but it won't hurt anything and it does work.) - Once into the system at the prompt type:
init 5 [ENTER]
- You may select GNOME at the login (This has worked well for me.)
